Well, well here we are. Starting something new (especially one with an audience) feels so daunting. There are many questions going through my head as I write this and the biggest one is - what will this become? I have thoughts and ideas of what this may become but truly, I don’t know. All I know is that I have had ideas and desires rolling around in my head, some of which end up typed out, spoken or doodled on my Supernote. This rolling has been increasing and as I head into a new phase of life, I feel like this could be a good time! But the question about WHERE always gets me stuck. Social media is exhausting, blogs are daunting…then I discovered this thing called Substack! A community of writers, thought leaders and researchers? Where a simple post is a blank page and a cursor? A place to gather my thoughts and look back at them? A space where length is valued? Something clicked when I began to learn about Substack and it answered a lot of my questions. I always hope for something that will FIT, like a perfect puzzle piece. And I’ve learned through the years that that often doesn’t exist. But we can get pretty close, and for now, this feels just about right.

For those of you who have been privy to my #writingwednesday posts through the last few years, I hope that this will be a space for longer versions of those - thoughts in my head on the tiny little things we say or do and how they may impact us and others. As I begin my PhD journey at the University of South Alabama (say WHAT?!), I am immensely excited to learn and apply what I learn in the field of clinical and counseling psychology. When I was in my masters program, there were many ideas I had, connecting pieces I made as I read, met with people and participated in lectures. But I wrote very little of those down. I hope that this could be a space for me to jot down brewing ideas, as a reminder for me to return to them, and also to learn from you all in the comments.

Those who know me know that I am an avid reader. As of today, I have read 39 novels this year alone. But for some reason I have a sense of shame about the type of books I love - ones with good endings, very minimal fantasy/sci-fi, about people growing and learning through daily struggles, and a touch (or a lot?) of romance. Lately though, there is more inspiration brewing within as I read and I want to share these thoughts with people. And related to writing and reading, I dream of writing books and sharing people’s stories. So who knows, maybe you’ll get snippets of the characters I create, the struggles they go through and how they work through whatever daily life throws at them.

So there you have it. My hopes of what this space could open up for me and for whoever chooses to read. If you’d like to join me on my journey, well then by all means, come along!
